In late 2010, Volcano encountered a customs issue with its Chinese e-liquid supplier that resulted in certain e-liquid flavors being unavailable for several weeks. In response to this issue, Volcano began working with a new supplier in the United States. Although Volcano still has some of the old Chinese e-liquids remaining, they will not be restocking them once they are sold out. The first e-liquid that I purchased from Volcano’s new line was the new USA-Made Menthol E-Juice, which I did not enjoy. While Volcano’s old Menthol e-liquid (still available in 0-nicotine) was very high in menthol and had mint as the base flavor note, the new USA-made e-juice was low in menthol and had a base flavor of tobacco. Many people enjoyed the new flavor, but I didn’t.
Behind the scenes, Volcano was working on a new e-liquid to please those who liked the old Menthol e-juice and didn’t care for the new one. The new e-liquid is out, and Volcano calls it Menthol Burst. Volcano advertises the new Menthol Burst e-juice as offering “Menthol Mintyness to the MAX” — sounds exactly like what I’ve been hoping for. So, does it deliver?
I’m going to cut right to the chase; Volcano Menthol Burst is by far the highest-menthol e-liquid that I have ever tried. In fact, it is far higher in menthol even than Volcano’s original Menthol e-juice.
Menthol Burst contains a mix of Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG). Although Volcano doesn’t publish the exact formula of its e-liquids, this particular e-juice is rather thin and I suspect that the mix is approximately 90/10 in favor of PG — perfect for a tank-based electronic cigarette such as the Inferno e-cig.
Volcano’s Menthol Burst is so high in menthol that Volcano suggests mixing it with other e-liquids. I have tried it with several of the e-liquids that I have, and Menthol Burst goes well with most of them. I find that it works particularly well with e-liquids that have strong flavors of their own.
The possible downside, though, is that because Menthol Burst has such a neutral flavor so as to make it appropriate for mixing that it doesn’t really have a lot of flavor on its own. There might be a bit of mint flavor, but the primary flavor here is definitely menthol.
Throat Hit and Vapor:
I never thought I would find myself saying this, but Menthol Burst has so much menthol that you may occasionally find it to be too much. For that reason, it can be a good idea to keep another e-liquid around for mixing when you feel like toning the menthol down a bit. If what you are looking for is the highest-menthol e-liquid available, though, Volcano Menthol Burst is exactly what the doctor ordered. Fans of Volcano’s original Menthol e-liquid have been looking for a true replacement for quite some time now, and this is it.
Now that I have finished my bottle of Volcano Menthol Burst, I have noticed a little feature that I hadn’t originally anticipated. Perhaps you have noticed that by the time you finish almost any bottle of menthol e-liquid, the last bits seem to have very little menthol. This is because menthol evaporates; even if you keep the bottle closed, the e-liquid will lose some of its menthol as you use it. This is also true of Menthol Burst. However, the liquid starts with so much menthol that even the last bits still had plenty of that cool rush. I am a big fan of this e-liquid.
